Hour of Code – December 2020
In honor of Computer Science Education week, on December 10th 7Park executed our second Hour of Code of 2020! Katy Herforth from our HR team led the event with Joel Raha, 7Park Data’s SVP Engineering.
Code.org, an organization very near and dear to Vista, sponsors an initiative called Hour of Code to help expose students to Computer Science early on in their education.
Although it was a bit different than our experience in March, as we had to execute the exercise virtually, it was still a success! Katy presented to 25 8th graders at Middle School 88 in Park Slope, Brooklyn about the importance of Computer Science and how it impacts everyday life, as well as our business here at 7Park. Joel Raha spoke to the class and talked about the learning opportunities available within Computer Science, as well as his role here at 7Park. The students then logged off to engage in the Hour of Code exercise on their own. They’re creating a How the Grinch Stole Christmas video game and a Flappy Bird game. The classroom cumulatively wrote 500 lines of code, which is no small feat. We had great participation & enjoyed interacting with the students.
