Which Apps Gained Engaged Users in January 2016?
Every month, our team at 7Park Data takes a look at “who’s hot and who’s not” in the app world. Our Top Growing & Declining Apps Report ranks the apps that are gaining and losing active users. In our January 2016 issue, we identified the top 25 growing and declining apps in each of the following geographic regions ranked by actual usage: the United States, European Union, South America, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, and India.
Staying true to the tradition of making lofty resolutions for a healthier, happier, and more organized new year, the US users rushed to download the apps that would help them do just that. Productivity, fitness (MyFitnessPal and Fitbit) and job search apps (LinkedIn and Indeed) were on the rise in the country. Fitbit’s significant growth compared to the same period last year shows the app’s strong performance beyond the seasonal trend. The percentage of users in the panel who used Fitbit at least once per week doubled in January 2016 compared to January 2015.
Zillow Real Estate, on the other hand, may have been a surprise contender among the top 25 growing apps in the US.
While the US app users started the year by shaping up and tidying up, users in EU, Hong Kong and South America spent their time on travel apps: Booking.com made it to top 25 in all three. Duolingo’s continued popularity in EU and South America is worth mentioning as well.
Shopping and games dominated in Taiwan with ETMall Shopping coming at #1 with significant growth in January.
